Energy Conscious? Try these five tips to save energy and money this season.
1 - Service your air conditioner.
Replacing air filters monthly can lower your cooling system's energy consumption by up to 15%. It’s also a good time to check the evaporator coil, which should be cleaned annually.
2 - Use ceiling fans.
Use ceiling fans. Cooling your home with ceiling fans allows you to raise your thermostat four degrees, this can lower electric bills without sacrificing overall comfort.
3 - Install window treatments.
Energy-efficient window treatments such as blinds, shades and film can slash heat gain when temperatures rise. These devices improve the look of your home and reduce energy costs.
4 - Caulk the leaks.
Using caulk to seal cracks and openings in your home keeps warm air out – and cash in your wallet.
5 - Set the thermostat.
On warm days, setting a programmable thermostat to a higher temperature when you are not home can reduce energy costs by 10%.
